Pacaya (B):

After breakfast transfer to the most active volcano in Guatemala, its 2500 mts. above the sea; the environment is formed by humid forest and rocks. This is one of the most exciting experiences in Guatemala, where you will enjoy from impressive views of the lagoon of Calderas and other three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango and landscapes as if you were on the moon. It is readily accessible and you don’t need to be in good shape to climb it, however you need to wear good hiking boots and wear long pants. When finish transfer back to Antigua Guatemala.

After breakfast, transfer to one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan World, Tikal, its name means “Place of Voices”, built during the Maya Classic Period. There are places on this earth that are so stunning that it is impossible to capture them in words or photographs. Tikal is such a place and is considered the second largest city in the Maya world. Tikal has the distinction of being the first site in Guatemala declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Upon arrival at Tikal archaeological site, our guide will show you the layout of the complex of Temples and Acropolis. Visit to the Complex Q and R, then to the Central Acropolis, Temples I “El Gran Jaguar and the Temple II “Los Mascarones”, regarded as the first and one of the most important monuments in the complex. Yaxhá – San Ignacio (B, L):

Transfer to Yaxhá, a former ceremonial center and city of the Pre-Columbian Maya Civilization.  The facilities have evidence of Teotihuacan influence in their architecture and stelae. We can find the only twin pyramid complex outside of Tikal, also known as the Stelae Plaza.  During this visit you will enjoy the wildlife, jungle and mystic surroundings of this unique area.  After we finish the tour, transfer to San Ignacio in Belize for overnight accommodations.

Caracol (B):

After breakfast you will visit the archaeological site Caracol. A great city once, remains in the site of one of the tallest manmade structures in the entire country the “Canna or Sky Pyramid”. Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Tour (ATM) – San Pedro, Ambergris Caye (B):

Today you will have an adventure tour to the ATM Caves, this caves features ceramics, stoneware and even human skeletons. You will hike for 30 minutes through the forest before arriving the entrance to the cave.  A short swim will lead you into the amazing underworld realm. You will enjoy geological formations like sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, and flow stones. We recommend to bring light clothing and swim wear and close-toe footwear with good sole grips.  When finish transfer to Belize City. You will take the water taxi to San Pedro, Ambergris. Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley, Ambergris Caye (B):

Hol Chan is the oldest marine reserve located on the southern trip in Ambergris Cayes, which cover approximately three square miles and it’s divided into four zones. We will make two stops to enjoy the amazing underwater landscape of the Barrier Reef to it’s fullest. You will see all kinds of corals as well as brights tropical fish. The second stop will be at the Shar Ray Alley, a shallow area where you may feed and pet Nurse Sharks and Sting Rays. Return to hotel Overnight accommodations.

From its colonial architecture to its beautiful surroundings; strolling through town on the cobbled streets, you will experience the splendors of ancient times. Also you will have the opportunity to be able to enjoy making a handicraft, traditional of Guatemala. In the afternoon visit one of the oldest coffee plantations in Guatemala. During this tour you will have the opportunity to discover how coffee is made. Our guide will show the whole process since the beans are picked up in the plantation until it is served as one of the best coffees in the world. Located in Honduras, near the border of Guatemala, ground transfer to the village of Copán that is a quiet, peaceful place that is best known its artistic ruins. Visit to the archaeological site of Quiriguá known for the tallest stelae in the Mayan World. The name “Quiriguá” is modern and taken from the name of a nearby town. It is very important to show Stela “C” which talks about the start of the fifth Maya cycle that began some 3,000 years before Christ until December 21st 2012. Day #8 Río Dulce (B):
Time to enjoy a boat trip from Río Dulce to Livingston, which is a river running from Lake Izabal, in the eastern part of Guatemala, to the Carribean. On the way visit to the Isle of Birds and the Ak-Tenamit Project, that is a Kekchi origin population. Then the excitement continues with a half an hour stop in the area of hot waters, near the entrance of the canyon of Río Dulce. At the end of the journey the river mouth will reach the Caribbean Sea “La Buga” Livingston, a population of African origin that was originally called La Buga which means La Boca. Livingston is a fun and interesting Carribean town that is populated by the Garífuna people of African origin with a laid-back Carribean attitude, their own language (though they tend to speak Spanish and English as well), and a style of dancing known as “Punta” that requires the hips to move faster than lightening. Transfer from Antigua Guatemala to San Juan Comalapa, a village known for its murals, marvelous handicrafts and its authentic market. The visit will begin with a mural tour that shows the different paintings by locals that narrates the major events in the history of Guatemala including the Maya creation story, the Spanish conquest and Guatemala’s civil war. Time to have lunch in a local restaurant accompanied by folkloric music. After lunch visit to the local market and to a foot weaving workshop. Transfer to Chichicastenango for overnight accommodations.

Day #5 Chichicastenango (B, L):

Early in the morning you will have the chance to see how all the local product dealers prepare for their sales in the market. Chichicastenango’s market, the most colorful and exciting place in the Mayan Highlands and the only place in Guatemala of 100% Quiche population. Transfer from Chichicastenango to Quetzaltenango, on the way visit to San Andrés Xecul that is home to a brightly-painted Catholic church adorned with a fascinating array of Mayan, Christian and agricultural images. Day #6 Quetzaltenango (B):

Quetzaltenango is the second largest city in Guatemala. Xela, as it is also known, is surrounded by the beauty of numerous small villages, which not only keep their essence but also still keep the indigenous culture. This city has an incredible energy and environment. During this exciting day you will visit Mayan Village of Zunil and Almolonga where you will see how local people live and learn more about its culture. Then visit to San Francisco El Alto and Fuentes Georginas, on the way you will see all the fruit and vegetable plantations from local people. Transfer to Panajachel for overnight accommodations.

Day #7 San Juan La Laguna (B, L):

Discover the magic that surrounds Lake Atitlán and all its greatness while taking a boat to cross it and a visit a Tzutuhil Village. This place is known for being one of the most authentic and best kept secrets in Guatemala where you´ll begin with a Cultural tour visiting the different workshops where you discover how a women’s weaving cooperative continues the traditional methods of dying thread with native plants. Time to have lunch in a local restaurant, where you will enjoy of our typical food. In the afternoon you will witness a real Mayan Ceremony in a local plantation. Transfer back to Panajachel for overnight accommodations.

Day #8 Santiago Atitlán (B):

We take a boat to visit another Tzutuhil village in the surroundings of Lake Atitlán. In this place you will visit the confraternity of the local saint named Maximon or Ri Laj Mam, visited by different people of different ethnicities who come to ask health and prosperity in their lives. Whether you believe in it or not, make sure to enjoy this magical experience. Transfer back to Panajachel to get ready for transfer to Guatemala City for overnight accommodations.

Day #9 Río Dulce (B):

Transfer from Guatemala City to Río Dulce. Time to enjoy a boat trip from Río Dulce to Livingston, which is a river running from Lake Izabal, in the eastern part of Guatemala, to the Carribean. Visit to the Community of “Lagunita El Salvador” where you will take a tour of the village, listen to a “Marimba”concert, and participate in the dance of the deer. Transfer to your hotel in Livingston.

Visit to the Ak-Tenamit Project, that is a Kekchi origin population. It is an indigenous community development organization that promotes development solutions for education, health, cultural programs and income generation. We will begin the tour at the school, Health care clinic and different places to experience the living of the local people. Visit Finca Tatín to have lunch. Transfer to Tikal or Flores for overnight accommodations.

Transfer to one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan World, Tikal, its name means “Place of Voices”, built during the Maya Classic Period. There are places on this earth that are so stunning that it is impossible to capture them in words or photographs. Tikal is such a place and is considered the second largest city in the Maya world. Tikal has the distinction of being the first site in Guatemala declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Upon arrival at Tikal archaeological site, our guide will show you the layout of the complex of Temples and Acropolis. Visit to the Complex Q and R, then to the Central Acropolis, Temples I “El Gran Jaguar and the Temple II” Los Mascarones “, regarded as the first and one of the most important monuments in the complex. Visit to the Lost World. At proper time transfer to the airport to take flight back to Guatemala City. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel for overnight accommodations.

Day #1 Guatemala City – Tikal

This program is part of GA’s Mayan Ruins Tours.   The tour can begin from Antigua Guatemala or Guatemala City depending where you are staying.  This tour includes two important UNESCO Heritage sites that historically where involved together.   The first day you will visit Copan in Honduras (very close of the Guatemalan border) and Quirigua the next day.   During this tour you will be able to appreciate the incredible Mayan Architecture, being Copan one of its greatest exponents of this civilization.  In Quirigua you will find the tallest stelae in the Mayan World and you will learn more about the beliefs and history of the mayas.

Itinerary:

Day #1 Copán:

07:00 AM: Early departure from Guatemala City to Copan (from Antigua Guatemala at 6:00 AM).

11:00 AM: Upon arrival, visit to the Mayan site of Copan or the “Kingdom of the Sun”, dates from the Maya Classic period (300 to 900 AD) where can still be seen several stone sculptures, specially dedicated to the ruler “18 Rabbits”who was beheaded in Quirigua Guatemala. Ceremonial temples can be seen as of the Inscriptions, the Popol Nah or Casa del Pueblo, the ball game and residential areas.

04:00 PM: Overnight accommodations in selected hotel in Copan.

Day #2 Quirigua:
08:00 AM: Transfer to Quirigua in Guatemala.

11:30 AM: Upon arrival, visit to the archaeological site of Quiriguá known for the tallest stelae in the Mayan World.  The character that stands out is Kak Chan Tiliw Yopa, also known as Heaven Kawak, several of the stelae represent this character is also very important show Stela “C” which talks about the start of the fifth cycle begins Maya some 3,000 years before Christ until 21 December 2012. The end of the Mayan Calendar gives emphasis to the Maya civilization and the world.

02:00 PM: Transfer to Guatemala City or Antigua for overnight accommodations (not included).

05:30 PM: Arrival to Guatemala City (Antigua Guatemala at 7:00 PM).
